The Three Poisons Once Again
Buddhism defines humanity’s three poisons as greed, hatred and ignorance. I wonder which of these poisons include violence.........
……….was it hatred or ignorance or perhaps both and is violence more prevalent in current world societies than in ancient times?
History indicates that violence has always been part of human nature triggered by many of our emotions, but the threat of large-scale violence appears to me to be primarily the result of the three poisons. When I look at the United States today, I see that it was greed that allowed the transfer of so much of our production to lower paying off- shore workers.
I
see the hatred that our disenfranchised workers understandably feel
toward a system of government that allowed one group of our citizens to take away the livelihoods of another group of our citizens.
Finally, I see the ignorance of our politicians who are again taking advantage of our workers to further their own fortunes and turn our citizens against each other.
When will this madness end?
